About these times

Which calculation method should I use?

Use the one your local authority publishes: Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, Gulf Region or Dubai in the UAE, Egyptian General Authority in Egypt, ISNA in North America, Diyanet in Turkey. When unsure, Muslim World League is a safe default and is what this page starts with.

Why are the times a minute or two off from my mosque?

Mosques often apply their own safety offsets, and each method uses different sun angles for Fajr and Isha. Pick the same method as your mosque and the times should match within a minute. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib depend only on your coordinates.

What is the difference between Standard and Hanafi Asr?

Asr begins when an object's shadow equals its length (Standard, used by the Shafi, Maliki and Hanbali schools) or twice its length (Hanafi). Hanafi Asr is later, usually by 40 to 60 minutes.

How are the times calculated?

From astronomical formulas using your latitude, longitude, date and timezone, the same open-source engine that powers the API and npm package on the developers page. Nothing is scraped or hand-entered.

Built for developers too

The engine behind this page is open source. Call it over HTTP or ship it inside your own app. 24 calculation methods, no API key.
